  • Lets draw a picture of a butterfly!
    You can email it to someone special using ArtBug!


    You will need:
    1. a piece of white paper
    2. a normal pencil, but a softer 2B or 4B is better.
    4. paints, I used yellow, brown and black.

    Fold your paper in half.
    At the fold line draw half of your butterfly's head, thorax and abdomen as shown.

  • Draw an antenna, a large eye (this is a compound eye) and two wings like this.

  • Fold the paper on the same fold line you made before.
    Cut out your butterfly with safety scissors or ask a grown up for help.
    Un-fold your butterfly.
    My butterfly is scanned on top of some green tissue paper, it is not stuck to it.

  • Paint your butterfly.
    I did false brown eyes on my butterflies wings to help scare away birds that might want to eat it!

  • Paint a small piece of paper brown or color it in.
    Cut four thin strips.
    Roll up one strip to be your butterfly's curled up drinking-straw-like proboscis,
    your butterfly needs it to poke into flowers and drink the sweet nectar.
    Fold the other 3 strips in half, when stuck on they will look like 6 legs.
    All insects have 6 legs. Can you imagine having 6 legs?!

  • I put my butterfly face up on the scanner and put some tissue paper on top.

    1. Scan your picture into ArtBug Mail.
    2. Choose the name of someone special you want to make happy with this wonderful butterfly!
    3. Click send!

    Your picture has now flitter, fluttered silently on the breeze to your own art gallery too! Well done!
